Mumbling Beneath Our Breaths
Recorded by:
Ryan Williams
From the Album:
Year of the Skype
Lyrics and notesConstantly complaining of your forced complacency
never pausing your fluid banter about how you are free
too distracted, brainwashed, hopeless, blinded, sad that you can't see
their programming your reaction through their ads on your T.V.
You say you hate outsourcing and companies that beat you down with greed
but still you do nothing to break away from your forced slavery.
Can you not see the need for protest, do you really not believe
Or are you just too scared to stand up, are you worried who will see
Are your actions so constrained by constant threat of thought police
Or do you think we have no chance at changing history?
Nothing will change while we're quiet, mumbling beneath our breaths
the businesses feeding the government while it starves the poor to death
your security in question, your devaluing paycheck
walking on eggshells, always afraid to take your next step.
Your heroes raised their fists and screamed that they would take no more
They stood together on the line in solidarity for
the right to justice instead of just throwing bones to the poor
keeping them held down on their knees in constant economic war.
If they'd have kept silent the violence against them never would have ceased
Let's stand together, banded, fighting for our right to live in peace
You've been used all of your life, you've seen so much defeat
but if you never raise your voice, you'll never be free.
