Lyrics and notes

A life of debt
the constant threat
of going hungry, can't afford rent
And the bills pile up
while the feeling stays the same
losing the game that you never wanted to play
So you work all week
work, drink, and sleep
When the paycheck comes you give all your money
to the loan agencies and the landlord and the grocery store
and you wonder if you're really living anymore.

Then they cut the busses and they hike the fare
You can't afford to get to work and you wonder if there ever will be
solace in this life filled with so much dispair and pain
Hummers and Mercedes pass you splashing water on you while you're walking through the rain
past abandoned buildings that are rotted out
in a city that is dying, take a look around
building condos and art galleries all over town
while the standard of living in the city crashes down.

And so we watch our home decay with our hope
as the rent prices rise and we slide down the slippery slope
less jobs, more rent, more debt, time spent
searching for a fix to forget where all your time went.

Getting sick from the cold, you've got no insurance
Ashame you can't even afford to heat your fucking apartment

This is the life that so many of us know
Simply fighting to get by, trying just to stay afloat.
