Lyrics and notes

The military recruiters are going into the schools
They've got their job security at stake to make their quotas full
And fool is what they do to many of the kids that they enlist
Tools to become the war machine's fuel.

They'll read the SRP handbook, the guidelines for success
They'll plant themselves in the community and they'll try to impress
in every mind that the army is in the kid's best interest
but they'll forget to address the issue of death.

CHORUS:
Oh, they'll tell you about the great pay, they'll tell you 'bout the adventure
They know what qualities to convey to convince you to become indentured
to a government that's killing people like they kill their own
through contracts for corporations and displacing people from their homes
No, it doesn't matter where you're from, it matters how much you're worth
Recruiters are pawns complicit in creating hell on earth.

One day you'll go to school and you'll be told to take a test
The test is called the ASVAB and as you might have guessed
it is administered at the request of the Department of Defense
to help decide which students recruiters should target.

The test is not required but most schools won't tell you this
You have the right to protest but they'll usually insist
that it's mandatory or, again, it's in your best interest
like recruiters they're pawns in feeding you bullshit.

Your scores are sent to your school and to your local recruiting station
where recruiters will decide for you your ideal vocation
Then they'll try to set up meetings or just simple conversation
letting you know how great the military is for you.

CHORUS

So now you've joined the military, isn't it exciting
You've been shipped to Iraq and everyday you're fighting
for your life and against the feeling that you're only igniting
more animosity in the people you help occupy.

Or maybe you were sent somewhere where we are not at war
You're nice and safe and getting paid more than you ever have before
Have you wondered why our country has a base where you are at
Doesn't is seem like a constant threat of attack?

How many military bases do you see inside the U.S.
It seems unlikely that an army would be stationed here unless
they oppressed us once before or they simply possess
the power to set up camp wherever they see best.

CHORUS

Now you're coming home and maybe you've seen too much
too many desperate people, too many lives lost
Your nightmares come while you're awake, you panic from the stress
of remembering all the things that you witnessed.

The V.A. hospitals can't help enough, they're far too underfunded
Your paychecks can't cover the cost, you've been swept under the rug
and now they're sending you an order to get back into the action
You've been "stop-lossed," they never told you any of this would happen.

CHORUS

How can you trust a recruiter to give you the facts
when their pay is based on getting you to sign a contract
when their quotas are only met because their quotas are being set
lower and lower every year we are at war.

Don't buy their lies, don't be hypnotized
by their promises or their caring guise
They will prey on you, relentlessly pursue you
and not give a fuck about you when you die.

CHORUS
